#14: Raised Hackles
Raised hackles happen when the hair along a dog’s back or shoulders stands up. This reaction can appear when a dog feels stressed, frightened, overly excited, threatened, or highly alert. It does not always mean aggression, but it signals strong emotional arousal that should not be ignored.

Pay attention to the dog’s full body language, including posture, barking, growling, or staring. Avoid crowding or pressuring the dog while they are tense. Stay calm and create space if needed. If raised hackles frequently appear alongside aggressive behavior, consult a veterinarian or behavior professional.
