#38: Guarding Food Bowls
A dog guarding their food bowl may freeze, growl, stare, snap, or bite when someone comes too close while they eat. This behavior often comes from fear, insecurity, or past competition around food. Guarding can become dangerous if warning signs are ignored or challenged repeatedly.

Never punish or physically confront a dog while they are eating. Give them space and avoid reaching into the bowl or taking food away suddenly. Children should stay away from dogs during mealtimes. If food guarding happens regularly, work with a qualified trainer or behavior professional to improve safety and reduce stress.
