In the early days, MGM Studios didn’t have high hopes for Stewart. They signed him up but didn’t see him as leading man material. Some big shot even called him a “tall, awkward guy with a weird way of talking.”

But that’s exactly what made Stewart stand out! Most big-time actors back then were all suave and sophisticated, but Stewart was just himself. He was relatable, like the guy next door. People could connect with him, so he became such a big deal.
