Frank Capra Saw Something Special in Stewart
Before It’s a Wonderful Life became everyone’s favorite Christmas movie, it was just another project in Hollywood. The director, Frank Capra, was searching for the perfect actor to play George Bailey, the main character. Both Stewart and his buddy Henry Fonda were considered for the role.

Looking back, it seems like an easy choice, but it was a tough decision at the time. Casting the right actor is crucial for a movie’s success. Eventually, Capra realized only one person could truly bring George Bailey to life: James Stewart. Capra knew Stewart’s natural optimism and goodness would shine through in the role.
