#24: Mrs. Columbo Is Never Actually Seen
Columbo talks about his wife constantly — her cooking, her opinions, her relatives — but Mrs. Columbo never appears on screen. Not once. Viewers only know her through Columbo’s rambling, secondhand stories, which may or may not be entirely reliable.
That running gag became part of the show’s charm. Mrs. Columbo helped humanize the detective while also adding to his mystery. Was she real? Exaggerated? Totally invented? Like many things about Columbo, the uncertainty kept suspects — and viewers — slightly off balance.
