The Breakfast Club, a Michigan lottery group, won the $842.4 million Powerball jackpot on New Year’s Day in 2024. Their ticket was bought at Food Castle in Grand Blanc Township, making it the first Powerball jackpot ever won on January 1. The group later claimed the prize through a public representative.

Instead of taking the full annuity, they chose the lump-sum option, which was about $425 million before taxes and roughly $305 million after required withholdings. The group said the money would have a generational impact, with plans involving family, charity, travel, and possibly property in Florida.
