#2: She Grows up in a One-Room Tennessee Cabin During the 1950s
She spent her childhood in a tiny one-room cabin in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, surrounded by poverty but constant activity. With 11 siblings in the house, daily life meant sharing space, chores, food, and responsibilities from an early age.

Church hymns, mountain folk songs, and family storytelling became part of her everyday life. She listened closely to older relatives sing and swap stories, while the hardships of rural Appalachian life gave her a toughness that would later define both her music and public image.
