#13: Smoke or Pet Odors
Some odors make buyers assume the home needs more than a quick cleaning. Cigarette smoke, cat urine, dog smell, or heavy air freshener can cling to carpet, curtains, furniture, vents, and even walls, making the house feel less fresh than it looks.

The best fix is to remove the source. Deep-clean soft surfaces, replace badly affected carpet, wash walls, clean vents, and use odor-sealing primer when needed. Avoid masking smells with candles or sprays, because buyers may suspect a bigger problem.
