Floors often reveal how a home has been lived in. Scratched hardwood, peeling vinyl, cracked tile, or stained carpet near entryways and halls can make buyers assume the rest of the house has also taken a beating, even if the damage is mostly cosmetic.

Small improvements can make a big difference. Refinish hardwood, replace badly stained carpet, repair cracked tiles, or deep-clean areas that still have life left. To avoid the issue, use rugs, mats, and protective pads in the spots that get the most daily use.
