#13: Presa Canario
The Presa Canario, or Perro de Presa Canario, was developed in Spain’s Canary Islands as a powerful livestock guardian and cattle-driving dog. Bred for strength, courage, and loyalty, it was highly valued for protecting farms from predators and intruders. Today, it is known for its imposing presence and confident temperament.

Presa Canarios are intelligent yet strong-willed, requiring experienced handlers who can provide structure and consistent training. If they are denied proper guidance, they can become overly territorial or aggressive toward strangers and unfamiliar animals. These traits, combined with their size and bite force, place them on many insurer high-risk lists.
